Founded in February 2024, Ensemble Mêtis has quickly emerged as a key player in the contemporary music scene of Nice.
Named after the Oceanid of Greek mythology, Mêtis draws its strength from the diversity of its members, who come from a wide range of cultural and artistic backgrounds. This diversity is both the source of its name and the wellspring of its artistic inspirations, deeply rooted in the cultural fabric of the city. Through this plural identity, Ensemble Mêtis forges close ties with major events such as the NIMFA Festival and cultivates fruitful collaborations with both the emerging generation of composers and internationally renowned artists.
As an ambassador for contemporary music, Ensemble Mêtis is devoted to the creation and dissemination of innovative works. Guided by the vision of composer Alireza Farhang, the ensemble brings together distinguished musicians including Mario Caroli (flute), Stephanos Thomopoulos (piano), Violaine Darmon (violin), Alberto Chaves (saxophone), and Yona Zekri (viola). Together, they are committed to advancing contemporary musical creation and supporting the emergence of new talent.
Although Nice has long been a vibrant artistic center, the need for an ensemble dedicated to contemporary creation and interdisciplinary projects remains undeniable. In facing the challenges and opportunities of our time, the city stands at a decisive crossroads—one that reveals both the fragility and vitality of artistic creation. In this context, the founding of Ensemble Mêtis—combining artistic innovation with strong local roots—marks an essential step forward. Led by a composer and four exceptional performers, the ensemble represents a new beginning, strengthening connections with local, national, and international cultural institutions within a dynamic and fertile artistic ecosystem.
