About the event
"My path to rethinking musical theatre and trans-disciplinary forms started after years of studying as a flutist, musical theory, and musical theatre at the conservatory (opera stage directing). I started working in opera houses across Europe and Russia (as assistant director, associate, and movement director mainly for Daniel Finzi Pasca, David Hermann, Kattie Mitchel, and Dimitri Cherniakov) and quite quickly I got into a sort of opera-existential crisis... Because my beloved art form - opera - seemed just a museographic dead form, replaying its life in the interpretative loop, rarely giving it contemporary existence, as well as losing its creative power. So I had to run away. Run as far as I could to find a place for that kind of opera I dreamed of.
I rediscovered the new path toward opera through fine arts after years of visual arts studies in France and using a more research-like experimental approach. I came back to it through performance art, installation, and other multidisciplinary total art forms searching for cross-border forms and narratives.
Through projects like the Plant Opera, which explores the relationship between humans and nature, and Kassandra, a narrative blending sculptural/installation art with opera, I have sought to challenge traditional gender roles and amplify marginalized voices. My commitment to social and political activism is evident in my work, as I strive to create art that provokes thought and inspires change.
Being an associate artist of “Opera Creation Journey” (Aix-en-Provence Opera festival) as well as the “Creators Connection Program” (by O.festival, Rotterdam, new musical theatre network) I am deeply involved in research of new ways for musical theatre and opera forms.
I will introduce you to my approach of trans-disciplinary and multidisciplinary form creations, and their dramaturgical, technical, and practical difficulties."
