The FRESH MAN cine-concert offers a singular musical and cinematic experience, situated at the crossroads of improvised concert, sound performance, and a contemporary reimagining of silent cinema. The Franco-Italian duo Mauro Coceano (piano) and Olivier Lagodzki (trombone, percussion, and sound objects) perform live alongside The Freshman (1924) by Sam Taylor and Fred Newmeyer, a masterpiece of silent comedy starring Harold Lloyd.
For more than twelve years, Mauro Coceano and Olivier Lagodzki have developed a rare musical rapport, particularly through their work in cine-concert. For them, this is not simply a matter of accompanying a film, but of creating a concert in its own right, in which the film becomes a living score that they interpret and transform. The music emerges from the movement of the images and the action on screen, but also from the energy of the room and the presence of the audience. Each performance is therefore unique, ephemeral, and unrepeatable.
Their musical language, which they describe as electroacoustic, brings together piano, trombone, percussion, voice, electronics, and repurposed sound objects. Moving between composed material and structured improvisation, the music tells us what we see, what we think we see, or what we might wish to see. It acts as an additional eye, giving the film a deeply personal layer of emotional and poetic resonance.

BIOGRAHIES
Mauro Coceano is a composer, pianist, and accordionist. He has composed music for around thirty theatre productions, working with artists including Emma la Clown, Michèle Guigon, Pierre Trapet, and Philippe Ferran. He has also created music for more than fifty cine-concerts, ranging from solo performances to ensembles of up to forty musicians, with commissions from ARTE, the Forum des Images, the Musée d’Orsay, and the Auditorium du Louvre. His work has been presented extensively in France and internationally.
Olivier Lagodzki is a trombonist, composer, performer, and multi-instrumentalist. His work spans jazz, improvisation, theatre, cine-concert, and interdisciplinary performance. Alongside the trombone, he works with percussion, voice, electronics, and a wide range of sound objects. He has collaborated on numerous theatrical and musical projects and has developed a long-standing practice combining live music and moving images. For many years, he has worked with Mauro Coceano on cine-concerts in which composed material and improvisation interact closely with the rhythm and movement of film.
